"If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense!" - Alice
Come on in and see the magical afternoon tea that I put together, themed around Alice in Wonderland! As you know, I love a theme, it's no secret, but following Easter, I realised we have no major holidays until October, and in the words of Alice "That simply won't do!". So I set about creating this, the first in a series of Disney themed, Gluten Free (of course), afternoon teas, so welcome to #theglutenfreeafternoontea series!
Whether you fancy putting an afternoon tea together for yourself, or could use these recipes for the planning of a birthday party, or hosting, I really hope you enjoy what I've created - I certainly enjoyed making it!
I have put together a list of all of the items I used to create a "garden wonderland" at the bottom of this page. One of my favourite additions to the day was my Alice in Wonderland V&A Afternoon Tea Stand and Side Plates. I love them! I was given them as a gift a little while ago and they are so incredibly special to me!
For the first course, I created a savoury selection of bites, including:
* Crab Brioche, with Avocado & Shredded Gem Lettuce
* "White Rabbit" Cucumber & Cream Cheese Finger Sandwiches
* Cheddar Cheese & Chutney Finger Sandwiches
* "Queen of Heart" Puffed Tomato & Pesto Tarts
You can find the individual recipes for the Crab Brioche and the "Queen of Heart" Puffed Tarts on the Disney Dupes page. You can also use the Menu I put together at the bottom of this page, if you fancy replicating it for yourself!
If like me, you've got more of a sweet tooth, then this is the section for you! I decided to omit scones from this afternoon tea, in favour of the pastries, but you could absolutely add them in too!
The sweet treats I created for the day included:
* Cheshire Cat Tails
* "Queen of Hearts" Strawberry Sandwich Biscuits
* "I'm Late" Pocket Watch Salted Caramel Macarons
* Strawberries & Cream "Painting the Roses Red" Cupcakes
* "Eat Me" biscuits
* Wild Bluebery "Caterpillar" Viennese Whirls
* "Tweedledee & Tweedledum" Cream Meringues
* "Drink Me" Potion
* The Key to Wonderland
If you're wondering how I made these sweet treats, the recipes for the following, can be found on the Disney Dupe page:
* "I'm Late" Pocket Watch Salted Caramel Macarons
* Strawberries & Cream "Painting the Roses Red" Cupcakes
* Cheshire Cat Tails
* Wild Blueberry "Caterpillar" Viennese Whirls
BUT the others...
"Queen of Hearts" Strawberry Sandwich Biscuits - For these, I followed Jessica's Kitchen GF Jammy Dodger Recipe - it's only three ingredients and so simple to make! You can find the recipe here:
https://jessicasglutenfreekitchen.com/2019/08/17/my-gluten-free-jammy-dodgers/
Tweedledee & Tweedledum Cream Meringues - These were one of my favourites - I simply used the meringue recipe from my Lemon Meringue Nests (found on the recipes page), I divided the mixture and coloured one half red, and the other yellow. I baked them for an hour and allowed to cool, before whipping some dairy free cream, and sandwiching them together!
"Eat Me" biscuits - These were made by a small business called Biscuit Bunny Bakes and they are linked in the "Where did I buy from?" section below! I'm currently running a Giveaway to win a set of the biscuits I got - head over to my Instagram page to enter!
The Key to Wonderland - This was purchased from The Amazing Chocolate Workshop as it looked EXACTLY like the key and keyhole in Alice in Wonderland!
"Drink Me" Potion - This one is so easy to make - I bought a couple of 'potion bottles' from Hobbycraft for about £1 each and filled the with Pink Lemonade, mixed with Violet Syrup! I then tied tags on using yarn and shook them gently to blend the colours!
Finally, the chocolate roses I created for decorative purposes were made by melting white chocolate and filling the rose moulds listed below, I then brushed them with some red food colouring gel and edible gold powder!
In case you are interested in creating your own Afternoon Tea, I've added a link the websites and products that I used, below:
